Product Description:

The TMC2208 V2.0 module is an ultra-silent stepper motor driver, ideal for 3D printers and other CNC applications. It uses StealthChop2™ technology for virtually inaudible operation, reducing motor noise to under 10dB. It comes equipped with a new heatsink for efficient thermal dissipation and supports up to 256 microsteps through smart interpolation.

  • Dynamic chopping mode – SpreadCycle™: Provides stable current control without ripple in the zero-crossing area, resulting in smoother and more precise movement.
  • Reduced heat generation: Compared to the TMC2100, the TMC2208 generates less heat at the same current, allowing the use of smaller heatsinks.
  • Smart interpolation: Microsteps are extended from 16 to 256 through a differential algorithm, ensuring smooth and quiet motion even at low pulse rates.
  • High-quality materials: Built with durable components for long-term stability and reliability.

Usage Instructions:

  1. The heatsink must be attached directly to the PCB – pay attention to its orientation to avoid shorts between pins and the heatsink.
  2. The motor direction is reversed compared to A4988/8825 drivers. If replacing an A4988, adjust the motor direction in firmware or by reversing the wiring.

Current Adjustment Algorithm (VREF):

  1. Measure VREF between GND and the middle pin of the potentiometer.
  2. Do not connect the motor during measurement – this may damage the driver.
  3. Use a dedicated power supply during measurement (not just USB power).
  4. Ensure the driver is inserted correctly – do not reverse the orientation!
